Police are again reminding residents not to let people into their homes without proper identification. Please do not let anyone talk their way into your home on the pretence of an emergency. If you get such a doorstep caller please close the door and check with the appropriate company using the number in the telephone book. Genuine callers will not mind waiting while you do this. If in doubt, or if you suspect you may have been targeted, please call police immediately using 999. If you have older friends or relatives please make them aware of this advice. Despite regular reminders people continue to leave valuable items in their cars when leaving them, not only that but some people still leave their car unlocked. Believe it or not we have taken a theft report this month from a person who left their debit card on the dashboard of their unlocked car. Remove all portable and valuable items from your car when you leave it. The tell tale sucker marks on the windscreen tell everyone you have a Sat Nav even if you hide it away. Even things that you think are not worth stealing, such as a coat, can be attractive to someone else. Whether it is outside your home, in a car park while you shop or work, or at a secluded beauty spot, take it with you before they take it from you Sgt Bob Chapman, Police Direct |
