MILLENNIUM GROUP continued
The time capsule was buried, and the bench unveiled on 1st April, 2000, by the late Rev Pat Ashton, who had been the vicar of Eyke for many years until his retirement in the 1990s.

2000 was a busy year; we also organised a Millennium Dance in July, a cricket match in August, and an Eyke Can Make It exhibition in November.

The original plan had been to disband the Millennium Group at the end of 2000, but somehow it never happened. We have continued to meet on a very informal basis, and have organised quite a few social events over the past seven years, including pot luck suppers, Over 60s lunches, dances, a hog roast, a quiz, a treasure hunt, and for the past three years we have put up a Christmas Tree, sold 'wishes' to hang on it, and sung carols around it, warmed and well lubricated by mulled wine and mince pies. Any profit from this last occasion is given to the East Anglian Children's Hospice.

Of course, over the years the Group has changed: one or two new faces have joined, and some have moved away. We'd really welcome some more new faces to the group - and fresh ideas, too. If you're interested, you can contact Jackie Pooley 01394 461275 or Karen Watson 01394 460003: they'll be pleased to let you know when the next meeting is.

We have a limited number of Eyke books left, available for £5.00 plus p&p,
if required. Contact Jackie or Karen.
